Anyone wishing to configure or order an igus linear axis will sooner or later be confronted with the question of motor alignment: left, centre or right - and at an angle of 0° or 90°.
What is meant by motor alignment?
Motor alignment is the positioning of the electrical connections, for example for the motor, encoder or brake. It is given in degrees, with the motor always viewed from the rear. For our two popular axis types, we generally distinguish between lead screw and toothed belt axes. Both variants are explained in greater detail below. Finally, we also discuss the special designs within the scope of the so-called "radial kit".
This includes all axes with the variants: ZLW, ZAW, ZLN and ZLWT. The main feature is the drive type of the carriage. With this kind of axis, it is realised with a toothed belt.
For our lead screw axes, the carriage is driven by a lead screw. The lead screw axes include all axes with the designations: SLW, SAW, SHT, SHTC, SHTP, SLN and SET.
Finally, the definition of our so-called radial kits follows - as promised. These are mainly used on our linear axes. In exceptional cases, installation is also possible on toothed belt axes, but this represents a rare special application.
For better clarity, a detailed presentation of the different angles is omitted here to keep the content simple. The following diagrams therefore all refer to a motor alignment of 0°.
