Labelling overview

Various processes such as stretch or shrink technology can be used for labelling. Linear and rotary bearing products as well as energy chains from igus® are used in various areas that have to fulfil numerous requirements such as high precision and wear resistance, freedom from lubricants, corrosion resistance or resistance to cleaning agents.

Products used and application examples

Using the Sleevematic TS from Krones AG as an example, the various stations of modern labelling machines and the igus® products used in them are shown below: The polymer products perform a wide variety of tasks such as the cross and height adjustments of the sleeve brush, belt station or the infeed and outfeed sensors.

Transverse and height adjustment of belt station

1. transverse and height adjustment of the belt station
The transverse adjustment of the belt station is guaranteed by an iglidur ® J trapezoidal thread flange nut, which is dirt-resistant and lubrication-free. For the height adjustment, iglidur® J flange nuts are used.

2. sleeve brush height adjustment
The height adjustment of the sleeve brush is ensured by a trapezoidal lead screw nut in combination with drylin® R solid plastic plain bearings. This makes it possible to work very compactly and favourably.

3. cross and height adjustment of the pre-shrink unit
The height adjustment of the pre-shrink was realised with a drylin® SLW-1040 lead screw module including clamping, position indicator and crank for format adjustment.

4. height adjustment of hold-down device
A type SLW-2080 lead screw module is used to adjust the height of the downholder. This enables simple and user-friendly operation of the machine. In addition, plastic-energy chains take over the guidance of the cable.

5. adjustment of infeed and outfeed sensor
The infeed and outfeed sensors are adjusted using a WS-1040 profile rail and a carriage including manual clamp. Thanks to the individual carriages, it was possible to make the adjustment very compact and flexible.

6. height adjustment of the deflection pulley
A drylin® SLW-1040 lead screw module including angular drive and accessories is used to adjust the height of the deflection pulley. The compact adjustment unit has been designed to be user-friendly thanks to the angular drive.

7. film accumulator with deflection rollers
Previously used metallic bearings in the deflection rollers did not run smoothly enough and the entire roller stopped in places. Today, they consist of two smooth-running xiros polymer ball bearings and an anodised aluminium tube.

8. adjustment of the safety gate
Finally, the adjustment of the safety gate is ensured via the drylin® N-27 series. The extremely flat guidance could be accommodated in the tightest of spaces.

Cable guide for labelling machine

This labelling machine retrieves labels from the supply, applies the adhesive and affixes the labels to the packaging. The e-chain® from the E2/000 series takes care of the cable routing.
