Working at a depth of 65 metres

Ets Payant, a French company, produces a pulley module which is attached under an excavator boom and moves earth out of pits up to 65 metres deep. All components must withstand weather conditions, dust and severe impacts. That is why the design engineers used igubal W300 double joints, iglidur P fixed flange bearings, iglidur G thrust washers, and drylin R aluminium shafts.

The pulley module is designed for a conventional 40-ton hydraulic excavator and consists of a winch module and a hose reel. It weighs just under 7 tons and is attached to the boom of the excavator with a quick coupling system. In addition, there is the guide roller module, which is also attached to the end of the shovel of the bucket with a quick coupling system.

Used in underground railway construction

The excavator with pulley module is used, for example, in the construction of underground railway lines that pass underneath the already existing underground railway network. It is therefore used in urban areas and must therefore be as compact and easy to transport as possible. In fact, the dimensions in the transport position with the hose reels folded in are identical to those of the conventional excavator.

With its grab, the excavator can move large quantities of earth out of the underground tunnels and load a whole 5 tons of material in one swoop. Loads and forces acting on the machine are thus considerable. Added to this are the weather, strong vibrations and dust. The operating conditions for all components are therefore demanding.
