User report

Strong and maintenance-free bearing of the crane trolley wheels

This trolley runs smoothly in continuous operation even in severe weather conditions.

This crane trolley runs on a crane girder refurbished by Kröger Kranbau und Industrieservice. As the crane is used outdoors in a very dirty working environment, the bearings for the running wheels must be as maintenance-free and weather-resistant as possible. The bearing points are also inaccessible or only accessible to a limited extent, meaning that a lubrication-free bearing is essential. Today, iglidur plain bearings are used, which both absorb the high load of the crane trolley and run perfectly despite severe weather conditions.

Profile

  • What was needed: iglidur plain bearings
  • Requirements: Corrosion-free, lubrication-free and maintenance-free, resistant to dirt, strong under high loads
  • Industry: Crane technology
  • Success for the customer: With lubrication-free and maintenance-free plain bearings made of iglidur, a bearing solution was found that is as weather-resistant as it is strong.
Crane trolley The plain bearings for mounting the wheels of this crane trolley were replaced with iglidur bearings.

Problem

A permanently maintenance-free bearing should be found for the four wheels of a trolley. The crane trolley is to travel on a refurbished crane girder that will be used outdoors. The environment is accordingly changeable. Dirt, water, snow and ice will reach the bearing points throughout the year. It is difficult to lubricate the bearings on the crane trolley and is also undesirable due to the effect of dirt. Nevertheless, the bearing points are exposed to high pressure. As the refurbished crane girder is not flat, it is possible that the rollers are not always in full contact with the girder. This additionally increases the pressure on individual rollers.

Solution

With special polymer plain bearings for high loads, a solution was found for the wide range of requirements. In this application, the plain bearings made of the iglidur material fulfil both the high requirements for stability in continuous operation and for flexibility in outdoor use. The polymer bearings are corrosion-free and do not require external lubrication or other maintenance thanks to the incorporated solid lubricants. This also prevents dirt from sticking to the bearings. The iglidur plain bearings are treated with a light (approx. 2°) interlocking angle. Other bearings were out of the question here.
